Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy

Founded by Dr. Richard Schwartz (IFS) is a transformative approach to psychotherapy that empowers clients through a non-pathological lens.

IFS is a transformative approach that takes two radical stances:

One:

We are each a complex system of parts.

The two distinct types of parts are exiles and protectors

Two:

No matter how counterproductive the parts’ behavior may seem, all parts are trying to help the system.

When we work to understand these parts,

we learn that their intention is incredibly protective. Please note, this does not mean that we condone destructive, violent behavior that parts engage in.

It means that we have an opportunity to understand the part, it’s intentions for the system, and provide it with an alternative solution.

Clients experience can experience a tremendous amount of healing when we get to know the unique vulnerabilities of their system and are able to provide a corrective experience.

This systems-perspective is incredibly powerful in the couples therapy room.

I will track you and your partner’s systems alongside each other to get to know which parts of you are consistently in gridlock.

From here, we work to understand the couples system from a whole new lens.

Still have questions? I’m happy to answer all questions IFS during our consult.
